Breaking the silence

About the project
Breaking the silence is a digital space dedicated to highlight the history of women's and reproductive rights in the United States.
I wanted to create a space where people could actually understand how we got to where we are with abortion rights in the U.S.
The goal was simple and big at the same time: to turn a heavy, politicized topic into a clear story about reproductive rights, key court cases, and the real impact on people’s lives. This project is fully non-commercial. It’s my way of contributing to awareness and education, using the skills I have: design, storytelling, and digital experiences.
I handled the project end-to-end
Defined the main storyline: from criminalization and early medical control, to Griswold, Roe v. Wade, Casey, and Dobbs. Researched and edited content into short, digestible sections that someone can read in one sitting.
Designed the visual identity: layout, typography, hierarchy, and overall feel.Built the website as a long-form, scroll-based experience that feels more like an editorial feature than a campaign page.

Design desicions
Visually, I leaned into a clean, editorial style with big typography, spacious layouts, and carefully chosen imagery so the content stays readable and doesn’t emotionally overwhelm the user—even though the topic itself is heavy.
I have tried a lot of diffrent layout options for each section to make sure I find the one that is just right.

Final design
This non-commercial awareness forward website walks users through 150+ years of reproductive rights in a way that’s informative, emotionally grounded, and easy to share.
I'm proud I could turn frustration and emotion about the current situation into something constructive and educational. The website won an Honorable mentioned award on awwwards which makes it globally recognizable.
This project shows that I don’t shy away from complex or controversial topics. I can turn messy, heavy information into a clear narrative and structured experience. I can lead a project from initial idea and research to concept, UX, visual design, and final implementation.
